Artist Profile

Artist Bio — Kara, Founder of Run With Scissors

Kara is an artist shaped by steel, softened by nature, and forever guided by music.

Raised just South of Chicago, in the industrial heart of Gary, Indiana along the South Shore of Lake Michigan; her earliest memories are a blend of grit and beauty: silvery driftwood, steel-grey waves, blazing maple trees, and the ever-present hum of the mills. It’s a place where contradictions live side by side — and where Kara learned to find color in the quiet, and poetry in the rust.

Today she resides in Denver, Colorado, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, where the horizon stretches wide and the sunsets light the sky on fire. An empty nester with a restless spirit, she chases landscapes the way some people chase constellations — collecting textures, moods, and stories wherever she goes.

Her inspiration lives everywhere:

the urban electricity of Manhattan and Chicago,

the moss-soaked forests and rolling fog of Washington,

the lavender fields of Oregon,

the red-rock walls of Glenwood Canyon,

the swirling turquoise-white rapids of the Arkansas River,

and the blazing autumn canopies of the Pocono Mountains.

To Kara, music is the way we decorate time, and her dye work often begins with a record spinning — colors rising from melody, memory, and emotion. Yarn becomes a canvas, a landscape, a reflection. A place where she pours her love of art, sound, nostalgia and the natural world into every skein.

From industrial blues to ember-warm oranges, from mossy greens to storm-kissed greys, Kara’s artistry blends rebellion with tenderness — an unapologetic expression from someone who has walked through fire and learned to glow brighter because of it.

This is the woman behind Run With Scissors: bold, intuitive, poetic, and fiercely original.

A creator who doesn’t just dye yarn — she spins landscapes, emotions, and lived experience into fiber you’ll never forget.
